English

Proposes a two-stage hybrid framework combining rule-based filtering with a fine-tuned RoBERTa classifier to identify climate risks in noisy Chinese ESG disclosures. It classifies retained candidates into None, Physical, and Transition risks, achieving a better precision-cost trade-off than standalone neural models in full-report screening. Argues for shifting from closed-world sentence classification to deployment-oriented systems.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

As ISSB/TCFD-aligned disclosure scales globally, automated extraction of climate risk from lengthy corporate reports becomes a practical bottleneck. This work offers a cost-aware, deployment-oriented approach relevant to CSRD and SEC climate disclosure screening pipelines.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Climate-related information in Chinese ESG disclosures is often embedded in long and noisy text, making manual identification costly and difficult to scale. Although neural language models perform well on curated sentence-level benchmarks, their direct application to full corporate reports often incurs excessive inference cost and unstable predictions due to non-material climate narratives. To address this issue, this paper proposes a two-stage hybrid framework that combines a rule-based filtering module with a fine-tuned RoBERTa classifier. Heuristic stages filter irrelevant and non-material climate mentions, reserving the neural model to classify retained candidates into None, Physical, and Transition Risks. Sentence and document-level experiments show that while standalone RoBERTa excels on clean test sets, the hybrid framework achieves a superior precision-cost trade-off in deployment. By substantially reducing the inference cost, the framework maintains reliable precision in real-world full-report screening. This study highlights the necessity of shifting from closed-world sentence classification to building a deployment-oriented system for climate risk identification under noisy text conditions.
