English
This paper presents an integrated innovation framework for large-scale building renovation in Spain, spanning energy, materials and people. Using CTE climate zones and IPCC scenarios across five cities, it finds heating demand falling and cooling demand rising sharply by mid-century, making passive climate-adaptive measures a priority. As operational emissions decline, embodied carbon becomes decisive, requiring reversible construction (ISO 20887), modularity, reuse and material passports. With roughly one in five Spanish households in energy poverty, user agency and equity are framed as conditions for performance persistence; a catalogue of 75 solutions is assembled.

In the global GX context
The paper's shift from operational to embodied carbon aligns with the global disclosure frontier (ISSB/CSRD Scope 3, building life-cycle accounting) and offers a replicable method for national renovation plans. Its integration of energy poverty and adaptive comfort connects decarbonization to just-transition and social-risk disclosure debates.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This paper develops an integrated framework for innovation in large‑scale building renovation in Spain, grounded in a national study commissioned by the Ministry of Housing. Innovation is articulated across three interdependent domains—energy, materials and people—so as to move beyond technology‑centric views of energy efficiency. Methodologically, the study combines a transversal review of 16 strategic and regulatory documents (2020–2024), climatic modelling based on Spanish Building Code (CTE) zones and IPCC scenarios (SSP2‑4.5/SSP5‑8.5) for five representative cities (Almería, Las Palmas, Valencia, Madrid, Burgos), life‑cycle and circularity criteria for materials, and a people‑centered lens addressing habitability, adaptive comfort and vulnerability. Results show a generalized reduction in heating needs and a sharp increase in cooling demand towards mid‑century, underscoring the priority of climate‑adaptive passive measures and hybrid strategies. As operational emissions decline, embodied carbon becomes a decisive frontier—calling for reversible construction (ISO 20887), modularity, reuse, and material passports. Social dimensions are central to effective renovation: around one fifth of Spanish households experience energy poverty, so user agency, equitable processes and accessible information are necessary conditions for performance persistence. Building on these insights, the research assembles a technical catalogue of 75 solutions classified by scale, maturity, environmental performance and climatic suitability. The framework thus provides a method to prioritize context‑specific packages that jointly address demand reduction, circular material flows and people‑centered outcomes, and it offers actionable principles for Spain’s forthcoming National Building Renovation Plan (PNRE 2026)..
