English
Stronger environmental regulation is assumed essential for maritime decarbonisation, but this study shows the regulation–adoption link is more complex. Regulatory stringency can slow green technology adoption and create uneven profitability impacts within the sector.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
As IMO decarbonisation rules and regional measures like EU ETS shipping coverage tighten, this paper cautions that regulatory uncertainty itself can delay green technology uptake—directly relevant to ISSB/transition-plan disclosure and transition finance for shipping.
📄 Abstract(原文)
Stronger environmental regulations are widely seen as essential for maritime decarbonisation. In this research we show that the relationship between regulation and green technology adoption is more complex and can have unintended consequences. Regulatory stringency can lead to slower technology adoption and there can be uneven impacts on profitability within the sector.
