English
This paper provides a reliability-based calibration framework to derive capacity reduction factors for fly ash- and GGBS-based low-carbon concrete (LCC), addressing the perceived structural risk that blocks its mainstream use. Integrating a collated LCC compressive-strength database with limit-state calibration across flexure, shear, and axial compression, it finds LCC factors are generally smaller than those for ordinary Portland cement concrete. The work supports codification and practical adoption of LCC in structures.

In the global GX context
Globally, embodied carbon in construction is a growing focus under CSRD, green building standards, and net-zero commitments. By providing reliability-calibrated design factors, this paper helps translate low-carbon concrete from a sustainability ambition into a code-compliant engineering material, supporting credible decarbonization claims in the built environment.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Low-carbon concrete (LCC) has provided an invaluable pathway to achieving carbon emission reduction of concrete construction. However, there is a fundamental limitation of LCC in structural applications due to its perceived risk which is a serious bottleneck impeding practical implementation of LCC in mainstream structures. This paper aims to break this bottleneck by providing a calibration framework to systematically determine the capacity reduction factors for LCC in line with reliability-based limit state design. First, statistical characteristics of LCC are analyzed and then three fundamental failure modes of flexure, shear, and axial compression are considered in the calibration. Results presented in the paper show that capacity reduction factors for LCC are generally smaller than those for normal Portland cement-based concrete. The contribution of the paper is the integration of the statistical analysis of compressive strength from a systematically collated fly ash- and GGBS-based LCC database with a reliability calibration framework across flexure, shear, and axial compression failure modes of LCC members.
