English

This paper proposes PSA, an LLM-based strategic bidding agent for coupled electricity-carbon markets that operates zero-shot without historical data. A dual-layer reasoning mechanism separates physical cost computation from strategic decisions with rule-based verification, while feedback-driven context refinement enables cross-round adaptation without training. On the IEEE 14-bus system, PSA achieves a 100% clearance rate and ~15% higher average profit than fixed-markup strategies, remaining stable under carbon price shocks.

In the global GX context

As carbon pricing increasingly interacts with power markets under EU ETS and emerging Asian systems, this work shows how LLM agents can support interpretable bidding under carbon price shocks—relevant to transition finance and market design debates on carbon-electricity coupling.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Under the transition toward carbon neutrality, the coupling between electricity markets and emission trading systems introduces strong non-stationarity and complex cost structures, making strategic bidding challenging in cold-start settings without historical data. Traditional data-driven approaches rely on historical interactions, limiting their applicability and interpretability. This paper proposes a large language model (LLM) based strategic bidding agent, referred to as the Prompt-Based Strategic Agent (PSA). PSA separates physical cost computation from strategic decision-making through a dual-layer reasoning mechanism (DLR-CoT), where explicit cost modeling with rule-based verification ensures economically feasible bids. A feedback-driven context refinement mechanism (FDCR) further incorporates historical market outcomes to enable cross-round adaptation without model training. Experiments on the IEEE 14-bus system show that PSA maintains a 100% clearance rate and improves average profit by approximately 15% compared with fixed-markup strategies, while exhibiting stable behavior under carbon price shocks. These results demonstrate that structured reasoning with feedback enables effective and interpretable zeroshot decision-making in coupled electricity-carbon markets.
