English
This review examines how renewable energy technologies—solar, wind, biomass, biogas, and small hydropower—can decarbonize the cultivation, processing, and extraction of medicinal plants and natural products. It also covers carbon-reduction tools such as biochar, energy-efficient processing, circular bioeconomy, and life-cycle assessment. The authors highlight renewable-powered irrigation, greenhouse cultivation, drying, and green extraction, framing climate-smart production as a pathway to lower emissions, biodiversity conservation, and resilient healthcare, especially in developing countries.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
For global disclosure scholarship, the paper is relevant mainly as upstream Scope 3 and supply-chain decarbonization context for agriculture-based value chains. It offers little on TCFD/ISSB/CSRD reporting mechanics, so its value is more in emissions-reduction practice than in disclosure infrastructure.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Climate change poses a major threat to biodiversity, agricultural productivity, and the sustainable supply of medicinal plants that serve as important sources of natural products for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. Conventional cultivation, processing, and extraction methods often depend on fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental degradation. This review examines how renewable energy technologies—including solar, wind, biomass, biogas, and small hydropower—can support the sustainable production of medicinal plants while reducing the carbon footprint of natural product value chains. It also discusses carbon-reduction technologies such as biochar, energy-efficient processing, circular bioeconomy approaches, and life-cycle assessment for climate change mitigation. The review highlights recent advances in renewable energy-powered irrigation, greenhouse cultivation, post-harvest drying, and green extraction techniques that improve product quality and resource efficiency. Integrating renewable energy with climate-smart medicinal plant production offers a practical pathway toward lower emissions, enhanced biodiversity conservation, and resilient healthcare systems, particularly in developing countries. Continued investment, supportive policies, and interdisciplinary research are essential for achieving sustainable natural product production and global climate goals.
