English

This book chapter reviews the energy transition within environmental sustainability and decarbonization, starting from the Anthropocene and rising GHG concentrations. It identifies energy efficiency, renewables, digitalization, distributed generation, and green hydrogen as key pillars, and examines EU policies (Clean Energy Package, 2030–2050 targets), energy communities, and prosumer models. It focuses on the building sector (NZEBs, cost-optimality, energy performance) and frames energy poverty as a social right, advocating an integrated systemic approach.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

The chapter synthesizes EU policy evolution (Clean Energy Package, binding 2030–2050 targets) and building-sector instruments (NZEB, cost-optimality), offering a reference framework for global disclosure and transition-planning debates under TCFD/ISSB and CSRD. Its treatment of energy poverty and energy communities connects decarbonization to just-transition and social dimensions increasingly relevant to CSRD social reporting.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the energy transition within the broader framework of environmental sustainability and decarbonization. Starting from the recognition of the Anthropocene and the rapid increase in greenhouse gas concentrations, it highlights the central role of the energy sector—responsible for the majority of global CO₂ emissions—in achieving climate neutrality. The analysis is framed within the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement, emphasizing the urgency of limiting global warming to 1.5°C and the shrinking global carbon budget. The chapter identifies energy efficiency, renewable energy deployment, digitalization, distributed generation, and green hydrogen as key pillars of the transition. It discusses the evolution of European policies, including the Clean Energy Package and binding 2030–2050 targets, and examines innovative models such as energy communities and prosumer-based systems. Particular attention is devoted to the building sector, nearly zero energy buildings (NZEBs), cost-optimality criteria, and energy performance assessment methodologies. The social dimension of the transition is also addressed through the concept of energy poverty, underlining the need to recognize energy as a fundamental social right. Overall, the chapter outlines an integrated, systemic approach to decarbonization combining technological innovation, regulatory frameworks, and social inclusion.
