English

This thesis assesses how climate measures affect green growth. Using supermodular game theory, it finds green finance has a supermodular effect in the energy transition game, but weakens under negative externality games, recommending strong international financial contributions to developing countries. Applying STIRPAT and ARDL models to panel data from 9 Central African countries (2000-2019), it finds relative decoupling with a rebound effect from eco-innovation, and that policy effects appear around 5 years after implementation.

In the global GX context

This work contributes to global climate finance scholarship by modeling strategic state behavior in the energy transition and quantifying eco-innovation's decoupling effects in a developing-country context. It speaks to debates on climate finance flows to developing nations and the timing of policy impacts, relevant to transition finance frameworks and just transition discussions under the Paris Agreement.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The main objective of this thesis is to assess the effect of measures to combat climate change on green growth. Specifically, the aim is to analyse, on the one hand, the effects of the strategic behavior of State parties in the energy transition through the prism of green finance and, on the other hand, to estimate the dynamic effects of Eco-innovation on decoupling. To do this, we adopt different methodologies. First, based on the global emissions game, we use the class of supermodular games to analyse the equilibrium situations arising from the global energy transition game. Our results indicate that green finance has a supermodular effect in the energy transition game. However, the action of green finance weakens when the equilibrium situation is a negative externality game. We recommend strong financial contributions from the international community to developing countries. At the same time, they must agree to a major allocation of their public finances to climate protection, green tax policies and a strong regulatory framework. Secondly, we estimate the dynamic effects of eco-innovation on decoupling in a sample of Central African countries. We use the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology (STIRPAT) model. Using Auto Regressive Distributed Lags (ARDL) modelling on panel data from 09 countries from 2000 to 2019, we arrive at the result that there is relative decoupling of impacts in the sub-region. This result is qualified by the presence of a rebound effect of eco-innovation, which confirms their mitigated effect on the decoupling dynamic. Furthermore, our analysis reveals that the adjustments inherent in economic and environmental policies will have visible effects around 5 years after their implementation. In this regard, we recommend a systemic approach to eco-innovation in public policies, green structural transformation, the promotion of the circular economy in value chains and economic emergence through the lens of the green economy.
