English

This study develops a quantitative model coupling ecosystem service indicators with life-cycle carbon accounting into a unified efficiency index for low-carbon landscape design. In a 25 ha urban park case, an integrated low-carbon ecological scenario raised the composite ecosystem-service score by 34.7% while cutting life-cycle carbon intensity by 29.3% versus conventional planting. It reveals that visually lush layouts can remain carbon intensive, offering operational guidance for carbon-neutral landscape planning.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Rapid urbanization and climate mitigation targets increase the demand for landscapes that deliver rich ecosystem services while maintaining a low carbon footprint. The study focuses on the problem that many low-carbon landscape projects optimize either ecosystem service performance or embodied emissions in isolation, which leads to fragmented design decisions and hidden trade-offs across the life cycle. A quantitative assessment model is developed that couples ecosystem service indicators with a life cycle carbon accounting framework and embeds them in a unified efficiency index for design scenario comparison. A set of ecological, regulating and cultural services is evaluated, and a net carbon balance module estimates annual sequestration and life cycle emissions. Experiments on a 25 ha urban park case show that an integrated low-carbon ecological scenario increases the composite ecosystem-service score by 34.7% while reducing life cycle carbon intensity by 29.3% compared with a conventional planting scheme. The low-carbon ecosystem service efficiency index highlights that some visually lush layouts remain carbon intensive, whereas configurations with balanced vegetation structure and material choices achieve higher benefits per unit of emission. The results provide operational guidance for low-carbon landscape planning at project scale and suggest a generalizable modeling approach for ecosystem-servicebased design evaluation under carbon neutrality constraints.
