📄 Abstract(原文)

This paper presents Kuwait Oil Company's approach to achieving its strategic goal of net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. KOC's roadmap is built around key strategic initiatives to eliminate routine flaring, maximize energy efficiency, integrate renewable energy solutions, deploy carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, and implement carbon offsetting strategies for residual, hard-to-abate emissions. The KOC's energy transition framework includes: Embedding energy transition into the existing management systems (HSSE, business planning, project stage gate system, etc.).Strengthening the governance structure with updated mandates and oversight committees.Establishing procedures and guidelines on GHG emissions management (reporting, baselining, and projections), project methodologies, energy optimization, and managing mitigation outcomes.Setting performance metrics for business units and a practical measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) process.Incorporating digital tools for GHG inventory, emissions pathway, projects registry, performance dashboards, etc. This framework, involving enhanced management systems, digitalization solutions, and practical project management, ensures a systematic, structured, and focused company-wide approach to decarbonization and GHG emissions management. A strong governance structure ensures alignment across business units to achieve strategic energy transition milestones through optimal resource allocation and utilization. Providing comprehensive guidance on developing and implementing action plans, as well as managing operations with an energy transition focus, strengthens the Company's ability to systematically identify opportunities for emissions reduction, effectively monitor and manage decarbonization initiatives, and align operational activities with long-term sustainability objectives. Leveraging digital tools enables consistent reporting, transparent progress tracking, and data-driven decision-making. This approach supports compliance with evolving regulatory and stakeholder expectations, ensuring that operational efficiency, performance, and competitiveness are maintained throughout the transition to a low-carbon future. This paper presents an approach to addressing energy transition strategic goals through pragmatic, scalable, and cost-effective efforts synchronized with the Company's core hydrocarbon business mandate, ensuring operational resilience and sustainable energy leadership.
