I propose a simple input–output framework for estimating gross domestic product (GDP) and employment generated in sectors with low greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity as a result of green expenditures. In addition to the analytical derivation, I also walk through a numerical example (based on Hungarian data), pointing out a number of issues that need to be addressed during a practical implementation. Providing easily calculable and highly transparent indicators, the framework is a useful tool for (primarily sovereign) bond issuers when preparing impact reports on green bonds or other use-of-proceeds bonds. To facilitate practical implementation, I also included an easy-to-use Excel calculator.
