English
The voluntary carbon market faces a crisis of confidence over credit quality, transparency and double-counting. This chapter argues blockchain's immutability, transparency and smart-contract automation can rebuild trust across issuance, retirement, tokenization and Article 6 ITMO tracking. It concludes trust is achievable only with high-quality methodologies, digital MRV integration, interoperability standards and inclusive governance.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
As ISSB, CSRD and Article 6 rules tighten, credible tracking of carbon credits and removals becomes a disclosure-integrity issue. The chapter maps how blockchain-based registries and digital MRV could complement TCFD/ISSB reporting and transition-finance integrity.

📄 Abstract(原文)
The voluntary carbon market is in a root cause crisis of confidence which has been marred with high-profile failures regarding the quality of credit, transparency and double-counting. These structural problems of opaque tracking, ineffective verification and fragmented registries can jeopardize the role of the market in funding the necessary carbon dioxide removal. This chapter explores how blockchain technology can act as the root solution to this lack of trust. It contends that the three principal capabilities of blockchain, as immutability, transparency and automation through smart contracts, can provide a formidable working kit to transform the carbon market infrastructure. Technology is said to be revolutionary in terms of traceability, beginning with issuance, all the way through retirement, automated exchanges, liquidity improvement through tokenization, and strong controls to eliminate any form of double counting especially of the Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The chapter concludes through case studies and architectural analysis that yes, blockchain can provide trust, but only through an overall system that is focused on high quality methodologies, integration of digital MRV, setting standards of interoperability and development of inclusive governance.
