📄 Abstract(原文)
This chapter explores the role of innovation, research, and technological change in advancing sustainability and the global energy transition. It begins by placing technological innovation within international sustainability objectives, including the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and highlights the growing role of businesses, cities, and private actors in climate change mitigation. The chapter then examines the European Union&s;s (EU) approach to energy innovation, focusing on the Energy Union, Horizon Europe, and the Strategic Energy Technology Plan, as well as challenges relating to research coordination, cybersecurity, and subsidy reform. It assesses global and EU-level public–private initiatives supporting clean energy innovation and surveys recent technological developments in renewable energy, energy storage, carbon capture, and digital energy systems. The chapter also discusses the relationship between economic growth, wealth, and environmental quality, drawing on the Environmental Kuznets Curve to contextualize disparities between developed and developing countries. It further considers the role of sustainable companies in energy, transport, and agriculture, before concluding with a broader reflection on sustainability and spirituality, emphasizing ethical responsibility, technological transfer, and long-term global governance solutions.
