This study examines how FDI in clean energy affects SDG 7 (energy access) and SDG 8 (growth/jobs) in Nigeria, using secondary data from the World Bank, IEA, IRENA, UNDP and CBN. It finds FDI improves energy access, renewable infrastructure and green jobs, but regulatory uncertainty, weak infrastructure, policy inconsistency and financing gaps limit impact. It recommends institutional reform, investment incentives, grid upgrades and public-private partnerships.

📄 Abstract(原文)
The global transition toward clean energy has emerged as a central strategy for achieving sustainable development, mitigating climate change, and promoting inclusive economic growth. In developing economies such as Nigeria, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has become an important source of capital, technology transfer, and innovation necessary for accelerating renewable energy deployment. Despite Nigeria's abundant renewable energy resources, the country continues to experience significant energy poverty, inadequate electricity access, unemployment, and slow industrial development. This study examines the nexus between clean energy investments, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) in Nigeria. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach based on secondary data obtained from the World Bank, International Energy Agency (IEA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The findings reveal that FDI inflows into the renewable energy sector contribute significantly to improving energy access, expanding renewable energy infrastructure, creating green jobs, and stimulating sustainable economic growth. However, regulatory uncertainties, inadequate infrastructure, policy inconsistencies, insecurity, and financing constraints continue to limit the full realization of clean energy investment benefits. The study concludes that strengthening institutional frameworks, enhancing investment incentives, improving grid infrastructure, and fostering public-private partnerships are essential for maximizing the developmental impact of clean energy investments. The study recommends targeted policy reforms aimed at attracting sustainable FDI and accelerating Nigeria's progress toward SDG 7 and SDG 8.
