ABSTRACT Access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy is essential for economic growth and social well being, yet a large section of the population in developing and emerging economies continues to experience energy poverty. High upfront costs of renewable energy systems, limited access to formal banking, and lack of credit history often prevent low-income households from adopting clean energy solutions. In recent years, Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) FinTech models have emerged as an effective and inclusive approach to address these challenges. The PAYG model combines digital financial technologies with renewable energy systems, allowing users to access clean energy products such as solar home systems, mini-grids, and clean cooking solutions by making small, affordable payments over time instead of a single large investment. This paper aims to examine the working of PAYG FinTech models and evaluate their contribution to clean energy adoption and financial inclusion. The study is based on a conceptual and descriptive research design, using secondary data collected from academic journals, industry reports, and documented case experiences. The findings suggest that PAYG models significantly improve access to clean energy by reducing financial barriers and aligning payment structures with the income patterns of low-income households. The use of mobile payments, smart metering, and alternative credit assessment not only enhances affordability but also integrates previously unbanked users into the formal financial system. In addition to economic advantages, PAYG models contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions. They also generate positive social outcomes, including improved living standards, better health conditions, and greater empowerment of women. However, challenges such as digital literacy gaps, payment risks, and regulatory constraints need to be addressed. With supportive policies and technological advancements, PAYG FinTech models hold strong potential to accelerate clean energy adoption and sustainable development.
