English

Using a 2015–2024 panel of 28 European countries (270 country-year observations), this paper tests whether renewable electricity generation lowers wholesale power prices. It compares nine dynamic panel estimators, eight published benchmarks, and a proposed GMM-CCE-IV extension to address price persistence and cross-sectional dependence. It documents regional heterogeneity and tests moderation by economic and geopolitical uncertainty.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

This contributes to the global energy-transition literature on whether renewables depress wholesale prices, relevant to market design and subsidy reform debates under the EU's Fit-for-55 and similar frameworks. The methodological battery for price persistence and cross-sectional dependence is transferable to other markets.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The paper examines whether renewable electricity generation is associated with lower wholesale electricity prices across a panel of 28 European countries observed annually from 2015 to 2024 (270 country-year observations). It applies a battery of nine dynamic panel estimators, eight published benchmarks and one proposed extension (GMM-CCE-IV, which combines cross-sectional averaging with generalised method of moments instrumentation), to address two identification concerns that standard dynamic panel methods do not handle well in this setting: price persistence and cross-sectional dependence. The paper also documents regional heterogeneity in the renewable-price relationship and tests whether the effect is moderated by economic and geopolitical uncertainty.
