English

This dataset provides supply-chain GHG emission factors for 1,016 US commodities in kg CO2e per 2024 US dollar of purchaser price, compiled from EPA USEEIO data. The 290-fold spread across sectors (from 7.437 for landfill to 0.026 for insurance) highlights that sector selection dominates spend-based estimates. Recalculated on AR5 GWP-100, it supports Scope 3 Category 1&2 screening, CSRD/ESRS E1 estimation, and PCAF data quality score 4.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

This dataset fills a critical gap for global Scope 3 accounting by providing US-specific emission factors consistent with GHG Protocol and aligned with international standards like CSRD/ESRS. Its AR5 basis and per-row provenance enhance comparability with UK, EU, and DEFRA datasets, supporting cross-border supply chain disclosures and PCAF data quality assessments.

Provides a reproducible, versioned US emission factor dataset with provenance, useful for benchmarking and methodological studies in spend-based Scope 3 accounting.

Enables quick Scope 3 screening for US purchases with an open API and clear documentation, facilitating CSRD and PCAF compliance.

Illustrates the importance of sector-level granularity and data quality in emission factors, informing guidance on spend-based estimation methods.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Supply-chain greenhouse gas emission factors for 1,016 US commodities in kg CO2e per 2024 US dollar of purchaser price, compiled from Supply Chain GHG Emission Factors for U.S. Commodities v1.4.0 (Ingwersen & Young, the EPA USEEIO authors; Zenodo, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.17202747; generated from USEEIO v2.6.0). Ranges from 7.437 for solid waste landfill to 0.026 for insurance brokerage — a 290-fold spread, which means sector selection dominates a spend-based estimate far more than the precision of the spend figure. AccessLive version — revalued on every data release, with methods, worked examples and per-row provenance: https://greencalculus.com/data/us-supply-chain-ghg-emission-factors/Open API endpoint — the same dataset, live JSON, no key or signup: /wp-json/greencalculus/v1/us-supply-chain-factorsThis deposit — a frozen snapshot for reproducibility: cite this version's DOI for the exact numbers you used; the concept DOI always resolves to the latest edition. The 1,016 NAICS codes are a mapping, not 1,016 independent measurements: the underlying model resolves them to 392 distinct values, and around 80% of codes share their factor with at least one sibling. Choosing a more specific NAICS code does not give you a more specific factor. Each commodity carries three figures: with margins (purchaser price — the headline value, matched against purchase-order spend), without margins (producer price), and the margin itself. The headline CO2e is recomputed on AR5 GWP-100 by GreenCalculus from the published per-gas sheet, to keep the US set on the same basis as the UK (ONS), EU (Eurostat) and DEFRA spend-based sets; the publisher's own AR6 figure is retained per row as value_ar6_100. Excludes electricity, government and household sectors, which the series does not publish at this grain. Columns: canonical key, name, 2017 NAICS code, value (with margins), value_ex_margins, margin, value_ar6_100, unit, USEEIO reference code, currency basis and year, GWP set, GHG Protocol scope and category, source id and cell reference, retrieval date and notes. Typical uses: GHG Protocol Scope 3 Category 1 and 2 screening, CSRD/ESRS E1 estimation, and PCAF data quality score 4. Licence: CC BY 4.0, following the upstream v1.4.0 licence. Editions through v1.3.0 (see the previous version of this record) were US Government works in the public domain.
