Alexis Leroy, founder of ALLCOT, describes the evolution of his firm from boutique carbon trading to a global developer of emissions reduction projects. Initially focussed on secondary market trading, Leroy shifted to project origination following the collapse of carbon prices after the 2008 financial crisis. This pivot led to developing projects aligned with environmental and social impact goals, particularly in the Global South. His experience in Colombia with a sugar mill transition to biomass as fuel highlighted the importance of combining local benefits such as worker welfare and gender equity with qualifying for carbon credits. Since then, ALLCOT’s portfolio has expanded to more than 200 projects, including regeneration, waste management and clean cooking initiatives.
