This study examines thermal modernization as a decarbonization tool for Ukraine's construction sector, targeting nZEB standards in post-war reconstruction. It analyzes Poland and Germany's phased thermal modernization experiences and develops an innovative modular wall element using a wooden spatial frame and cellulose filler, demonstrating high thermal insulation and negative global warming potential. The authors argue that carbon-neutral wood materials are key to industry decarbonization and meeting Ukraine's climate obligations as an EU associated member.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Thermal modernization is studied as a tool for decarbonization of the construction sector of Ukraine with an orientation towards the “zero-emission buildings” (nZEB) standard in post-war reconstruction. The impact of the war on infrastructure and the experience of Poland and Germany in implementing phased thermal modernization are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the development of an innovative modular wall element based on a wooden spatial frame and cellulose filler. It is proven that the structure provides high thermal insulation and a negative indicator of global warming potential. This allows us to assert that the use of such carbon-neutral wood materials is a key factor in the decarbonization of the industry and the fulfillment of Ukraine’s climate obligations as an associated member of the EU.
