📄 Abstract(原文)
The unsustainable consumption of resources (water, land, and fossil fuels) and increasing greenhouse gas emissions has led to widespread changes in atmosphere, ocean, biosphere and the cryospshere. What environmental regulations and standards, the command-and-control approaches most often adopted by governments, the market-based environmental policy instruments such as taxes, subsidies, emissions trading system, and green public procurement affect business decisions both in the short term and long term are explored. The three strategies for energy management, namely, efficiency, sufficiency, and consistency with special emphasis on consistency strategy which aims to replace environmentally harmful sources of energy with renewable or green energy are discussed in detail in the chapter. Though there are many companies voluntarily doing good, firms should be made aware of the intangible benefits they stand for as sustainability leaders as well as quantified results of better financial performance through higher environmental performance. To demonstrate this as well as to further emphasize the importance and benefits of being environmentally conscious, the chapter will conclude with a case study which examines the relationship between environmental performance of 240firms and financial performance of 50 companies around the world for period of five years (2015–2020).
