This paper analyzes the conceptual difference between defossilization (phasing out fossil fuels) and decarbonization (reducing CO2 emissions) and proposes an integrated framework for achieving net-zero industry. It argues that carbon metrics alone may overlook the need to eliminate fossil fuel dependency and offers strategies for harmonizing both approaches.
