In the global GX context
This study presents a novel integration of biochar and bio-based carbon fiber for durable carbon removal. While specific to Paraguay's sugarcane and hydroelectricity, the concept is globally relevant for negative emissions strategies and suggests pathways for bioeconomy-based carbon dioxide removal.

📄 Abstract(原文)
A whole-cane biorefinery concept for atmospheric CO₂ removal in Paraguay. The entire sugarcane plant is used: cane-juice sugars are converted to bio-acrylonitrile (via 3-hydroxypropionic acid; Karp et al., 2017) and then to PAN-based carbon fiber, while the fibrous bagasse is pyrolyzed to biochar and returned to soil as a century-scale carbon sink; the near-pure CO₂ fermentation off-gas can be optionally captured. Powered by low-carbon hydroelectricity and green ammonia, a first-order carbon balance indicates ~7.5 t CO₂/ha/yr net durable removal. Because the carbon-fiber market is small (~150 kt/yr), biochar provides the scale of removal while carbon fiber contributes mainly via metal substitution. Figures are scoping estimates pending a full life-cycle assessment. Published bilingually as prior art.
