English

This study builds and preliminarily tests a conceptual model integrating regulatory, organisational, and consumer-behavioural factors in last-mile delivery decarbonization. Results show decarbonization is nonlinear and systemic: regulatory pressure and firm adaptation strategies strongly drive operational efficiency and low-emission adoption, while behavioural factors matter less. It highlights an asymmetry between top-down and bottom-up mechanisms and recommends integrated strategies, digitalisation, and behavioural-economics tools for logistics demand management.

In the global GX context

Amid tightening CSRD/Scope 3 disclosure and urban logistics regulation globally, the paper's finding that regulatory pressure dominates behavioural levers informs how firms should sequence decarbonization investments and how policymakers design demand-side incentives.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The aim of this study is to identify and assess the importance of selected decarbonization instruments in shaping integrated, adaptive, and low-emission last-mile delivery strategies, taking into account consumer behavioural determinants. The study utilised a modelling approach, developing a conceptual model integrating regulatory, organisational, and behavioural factors, which was then subjected to preliminary empirical verification. The obtained results indicate that the decarbonization process is nonlinear and systemic, based on interdependencies between the regulatory, strategic, and consumer levels. Regulatory pressure and enterprise adaptation strategies play a key role, significantly determining operational efficiency and the implementation of low-emission solutions, while the influence of behavioural factors remains relatively limited. Consequently, the research hypothesis was partially confirmed, indicating an asymmetry in the interactions between ”top-down” and ”bottom-up” mechanisms. A limitation of the study is the need for further in-depth empirical verification, particularly using operational data and a broader consideration of the demand side. Practical implications include the need to develop integrated adaptation strategies, intensify digitalisation processes, and apply behavioural economics tools to logistics demand management. In the social dimension, the importance of strengthening the role of consumers in the low-carbon transition process is emphasised. The study's originality lies in its integration of systems and behavioural approaches in the analysis of last-mile delivery decarbonization, which significantly complements existing research, which focuses primarily on technological and regulatory aspects.
