English
A TREASoURcE project report using scenario-based macroeconomic modelling to assess repurposed EV batteries for stationary storage (BESS) in Norway. A growing second-life battery industry yields modest but measurable value added and employment, mainly in repurposing and technical trades, with minimal added GHG emissions. Deployment hinges on market acceptance, collection/repurposing infrastructure and vocational training, while long-term recycling capacity remains essential.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
As global EV fleets age, second-life battery markets intersect with circular-economy disclosure and resource-efficiency targets under CSRD and transition planning. The macro-modelling approach offers a template for quantifying economy-wide impacts of circular battery value chains beyond Norway.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This report, produced under the TREASoURcE project, assesses the potential of repurposed electric vehicle (EV) batteries for battery energy storage systems (BESS) and their economic, social, and environmental impacts in Norway using scenario-based macroeconomic modelling. The analysis shows that a growing second-life battery industry can create measurable, though modest, value added and employment, particularly in battery repurposing and related technical professions, while contributing to circular economy goals with minimal additional greenhouse gas emissions. The findings highlight that successful deployment depends on market acceptance, effective collection and repurposing infrastructure, and adequate vocational training, while long-term recycling capacity remains essential. Overall, second-life EV batteries can support Norway’s energy transition and resource-efficiency objectives, although the scale of benefits remains sensitive to uncertainties such as repurposing rates, costs, battery lifetimes, and future market conditions
