English

This study develops a source-temporal carbon-accounting method for an electricity-heat-gas-hydrogen integrated energy system, using nodal carbon intensity (NCI) in iterative source-load coordination. Electrolytic hydrogen inherits the carbon intensity of its actual electricity supply, and cyclic storage-carbon accounting (CISE) maintains the storage boundary. Case results show assigning zero carbon to new electrolytic hydrogen causes up to 0.1084 kgCO2/kWh NCI deviation, while optimized 0-20% hydrogen blending cuts cost, emissions, and RES curtailment versus fixed 10% blending.

In the global GX context

As ISSB/CSRD push for granular Scope 2 and value-chain carbon accounting, this paper's nodal carbon intensity and temporal storage-carbon tracking offer a methodological template for attributing emissions across coupled electricity-hydrogen systems, relevant to transition finance and disclosure infrastructure.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Abstract The effectiveness of carbon-responsibility signals in source–load coordination depends on accurate carbon tracing through energy-conversion and storage processes. Existing integrated energy system (IES) studies often treat hydrogen-source attribution and storage-carbon tracking separately, which can alter the NCI signals delivered to end users. This study develops a source–temporal carbon-accounting method for an electricity–heat–gas–hydrogen integrated energy system and uses the resulting nodal carbon intensity (NCI) in iterative source–load coordination. Electrolytic hydrogen inherits the carbon intensity of its actual electricity supply, including storage discharge, and this attribute is propagated through time-varying hydrogen–natural-gas conversion. Cyclic carbon intensity of stored energy (CISE) is then used to maintain the storage-carbon boundary over the scheduling horizon, with its convergence condition derived under frozen physical dispatch. Case-study results show that assigning newly produced electrolytic hydrogen zero carbon causes a maximum H₂-node NCI deviation of 0.1084 kgCO₂/kWh, while replacing cyclic storage accounting with a one-pass calculation produces deviations of 0.1615 kgCO₂/kWh at the electricity node and 0.5236 kgCO₂/kWh at the H₂ node. Compared with fixed 10% hydrogen blending, optimized 0–20% blending reduces gross operating cost by 9,384.59 CNY, emissions from 428.446 to 427.890 tCO₂, and renewable energy source (RES) curtailment from 2.835% to 2.020%. With the NCI price coefficient set to 100 CNY/tCO₂, the case with IDR and dynamic 0–20% hydrogen blending gives emissions of 392.192 tCO₂ and RES curtailment of 1.592%; the larger emission reduction relative to the non-IDR cases is mainly associated with IDR. Preserving hydrogen-source attribution and temporal storage-carbon states improves the accounting consistency of load-node NCI and supports more consistent source–load coordination decisions in hydrogen-integrated IESs.
