Agroforestry integrates trees with crops and livestock, sequestering carbon while improving soil fertility and biodiversity. This paper examines how carbon credit revenue can enhance profitability for farmers in Haryana, India, promoting climate-resilient farming. It also discusses supportive policies for carbon finance to boost farmer incomes and national climate goals.

In the global GX context
This paper contributes to the global literature on nature-based solutions for climate mitigation, linking carbon markets with agricultural livelihoods. It provides empirical evidence from India that can inform international carbon crediting frameworks (e.g., Article 6 of the Paris Agreement) and corporate net-zero strategies seeking credible offsets.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Agroforestry, the deliberate integration of trees with crops and livestock systems, has emerged as an effective strategy for climate change mitigation and sustainable rural development. By capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) in above-ground biomass, below-ground biomass, and soil, agroforestry contributes significantly to carbon sequestration while improving soil fertility, biodiversity conservation, and water-use efficiency. In addition to its environmental benefits, agroforestry enhances farmers' livelihoods by diversifying income sources through the production of timber, fruits, fuelwood, and other tree-based products. Carbon credit mechanisms provide an additional opportunity for income generation, creating financial incentives for the adoption of agroforestry practices. This paper examines the potential of carbon revenue to enhance the profitability of agroforestry plantations and promote climate-resilient farming systems. In the Indian context, supportive policies for carbon finance and agroforestry development can contribute to increasing farmers' incomes, strengthening livelihood resilience, and advancing national climate goals. Furthermore, agroforestry-based carbon sequestration can support corporate net-zero commitments, offering a synergistic pathway toward environmental sustainability and inclusive economic growth.
