In the global GX context

This research contributes to the global discourse on natural climate solutions and forest-based mitigation, aligning with international frameworks like the Paris Agreement and voluntary carbon markets. It offers a replicable modeling approach for subnational jurisdictions to quantify the climate benefits of forest management, relevant to global climate policy and corporate net-zero strategies.

👥 読者別の含意

🔬研究者:Provides a regional carbon modeling approach for assessing forest management mitigation potential, useful for comparative studies.

🏢実務担当者:Offers evidence for forest-based carbon offset projects and sustainable wood utilization strategies.

🏛政策担当者:Informs state-level climate policy on leveraging forests for natural climate solutions.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Forests provide invaluable climate benefits state governments can leverage to protect against future climate impacts. However, the quantity and durability of this climate benefit varies between ecosystems. Further, differences in forest management and wood utilization practices influence the forestry sector’s climate mitigation potential. This report provides critical new information about the potential for forest management and wood utilization in Michigan to support natural climate solutions. This research uses regional carbon modeling to identify climate-smart forestry practices for Michigan, application of which could decrease the state’s projected cumulative forest carbon emissions by over 11% by the end of the century.
