English
This study surveys 1127 consumers in Ghana to identify predictors of purchasing energy-efficient appliances. Key factors include location, sex, age, electricity bill, perception of EE, home ownership, and EE labels. Cost savings on electricity bills motivate purchases, while high prices deter. Policy recommendations include subsidies and tax incentives for EE appliances.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Energy efficiency (EE) is touted to slow resource depletion significantly, expedite climate action, and realise other sustainable development goals on the back of energy efficient appliances. The quantitative study investigates the predictors of EE consideration in consumers’ appliance purchase decision. The enquiry employs stratified random sampling to reach 1127 consumers from urban and rural shopping centres in Ghana. The analysis reveals Location (rural or urban), Sex, Age, Electricity bill, perception of EE as a panacea, House ownership, and EE label as statistically significant predictors of the decision to consider EE in appliance purchase or otherwise. Consumers are also mainly motivated by a reduction in electricity bills in EE appliance purchase, while high EE appliance prices was the major deterrent. Policy should consider incentive-driven programmes such as EE subsidies and tax incentives for EE appliances to encourage patronage. Future research could consider the moderating effect of regulation and appliance-related imports on EE adoption.
