English

This review examines AI data-driven applications in Environmental Management Accounting (EMA) for carbon accounting and managerial decision-making. Using PRISMA and bibliometric/thematic synthesis in Scopus, it identifies five AI application clusters: machine learning and predictive analytics, big data analytics, blockchain/DLT, data-driven accounting frameworks, and AI carbon management systems. It argues AI integration shifts carbon accounting from retrospective reporting toward adaptive carbon governance with decision-support at operational, tactical, and strategic levels, while calling for more empirical work and organisational interoperability models.

In the global GX context

As ISSB/CSRD and Scope 3 disclosure demands intensify, this review maps how AI, blockchain, and big data can strengthen the accuracy, completeness, and traceability of carbon data underpinning disclosure. It contributes to the emerging scholarship on AI-enabled disclosure infrastructure and carbon governance beyond retrospective reporting.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This paper reviews the function of AI data-driven in Environmental Management Accounting (EMA) for carbon accounting in the process of improving managerial decision-making processes. The method used in this study is the PRISMA framework, which involves bibliometric and thematic synthesis using specific keyword strings in the Scopus database. The results are grouped into five categories of AI applications: AI for machine learning and predictive analytics; big data analytics; blockchain and distributed ledger technologies; data-driven accounting frameworks; and AI for carbon management systems. Machine learning, particularly, helps increase the accuracy of emissions measurements; blockchain enhances the consistency and traceability of carbon disclosures; and big data analytics improves the completeness and timeliness of sustainability information. This research identified the integration of AI technologies in EMA-Carbon Accounting, shifting from retrospective carbon reporting towards integrated carbon governance enabled by adaptive intelligent tools, including decision-support systems, at the operational, tactical, and strategic levels. More empirical research and organisational interoperability models are needed to support more extensive decarbonisation efforts in the supply chain in the future.
