English

This paper proposes an integrated framework linking ISO 14064 facility-level carbon intensity with ISO 14067-compliant product carbon footprint (CFP) via LCA. Applied to crude oil, LNG, methanol, and ammonia value chains, it shows that asset-specific operational data yield lower carbon intensity than ecoinvent baselines, improving CFP, regulatory compliance margins (IMO, FuelEU, CORSIA, CBAM), and market competitiveness. It reframes upstream decarbonization as a value-driven strategy rather than mere compliance.

In the global GX context

Directly relevant to global disclosure and market-access regimes—CBAM, FuelEU Maritime, CORSIA, IMO Net-Zero—where verified product-level CFP becomes a determinant of market access. It offers a replicable bridge between facility-level emissions accounting and product carbon value, complementing ISSB/Scope 3 disclosure scholarship with asset-specific data transparency.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Abstract This paper presents an integrated framework that links facility-level carbon intensity (CI), quantified under ISO 14064, with product-level carbon footprint (CFP) assessment using ISO 14040, ISO 14044, and ISO 14067-compliant Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The framework enables upstream decarbonization initiatives to be translated into measurable product-level carbon performance and commercial value. The emergence of market-shaping regulations, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Net-Zero Framework, FuelEU Maritime, the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), and the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), has increased the importance of product-level carbon intensity as a determinant of market access, regulatory compliance, and competitiveness. At the same time, growing demand for lower-carbon fuels and chemicals has increased the value of verified CFP information as a differentiator in emerging energy markets. The proposed framework comprises three key components: (1) market intelligence screening to identify products exposed to carbon-related regulatory and commercial drivers, (2) upstream network carbon intensity assessment using actual field-level operational data, and (3) ISO-compliant LCA modeling and CFP quantification on a cradle-to-grave basis. Unlike conventional approaches that rely on generic industry-average or statistical datasets, the framework incorporates asset-specific operational data to improve the representativeness, transparency, and decision relevance of product carbon assessments. The framework is applied to four product value chains: crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), methanol, and ammonia. Results demonstrated that actual upstream operational data consistently exhibited lower carbon intensity than corresponding ecoinvent baseline datasets, resulting in improved product-level carbon performance. The findings further showed that upstream decarbonization initiatives can generate measurable reductions in CFP, improve compliance margins against emerging regulatory requirements, and enhance the competitiveness of conventionally produced hydrocarbons and energy products in increasingly carbon-constrained markets. Ultimately, the framework repositions upstream decarbonization from a compliance-driven activity into a value-driven strategy by providing a transparent link between facility-level emissions performance and product-level carbon outcomes. This enables producers to quantify, verify, and communicate the carbon advantages of their products while supporting low-carbon certification, market differentiation, and future commercial opportunities.
