English

This comparative review examines how Asia's steel powerhouses (China, India, Japan, South Korea), producing 70% of global output, can decarbonize coal-reliant blast furnaces via green hydrogen from renewables. It contrasts this with Brazil, whose >50% renewable energy mix makes it an ideal sustainable steelmaking hub. Transitional levers include scrap maximization, EAF adoption, by-product gases, and machinery modernization, underpinned by public-private partnerships and international cooperation toward net-zero by 2060.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

For global disclosure scholarship, this review links hard-to-abate steel decarbonization to transition finance and Scope 3 supply-chain accounting, framing green hydrogen and EAF pathways as investable transition strategies under ISSB/TCFD-aligned corporate climate plans.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Accounting for 70% of global output, Asian steel powerhouses—China, India, Japan, and South Korea—face an urgent imperative to decarbonize their heavily coal-reliant blast furnace infrastructure. This comparative review evaluates the integration of renewable energy sources for green hydrogen production across Asia, setting it against the unique competitive advantage of Brazil, where a renewable-dominant energy mix (>50%) positions the nation as an ideal global hub for sustainable steelmaking. Beyond green hydrogen, key transitional strategies include maximizing scrap utilization, adopting Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF), leveraging industrial by-product gases, and modernizing machinery. Ultimately, driving these critical technological shifts relies on strong public–private partnerships and international cooperation to reach net-zero emissions by 2060.
