The deleterious effects of climate change, predominantly driven by elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations resulting from extensive fossil fuel consumption, are now evident globally. Despite the urgency of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, current energy systems and fossil-based fuels remain integral for the global economy and are anticipated to persist in the foreseeable future. Carbon capture and utilization technologies offer a promising approach to mitigate CO2 emissions from various sources and convert them into value-added chemicals, creating a circular carbon economy.
