English

Numerical study of 25% and 50% H2 and HHO (water-electrolysis oxyhydrogen) enrichment in laminar premixed methane Bunsen flames using GRI-Mech 3.0 finite-rate chemistry. Both strategies raise laminar burning velocity and shorten flames; 50% HHO gives the highest local heat-release rate. Co-supplied O2 boosts the O/OH pool, and HHO accelerates post-flame H2/CO oxidation, lowering residual CO. NO rates are higher for HHO than H2 but stay below the CH4 reference.

In the global GX context

Hydrogen co-firing is central to global hard-to-abate decarbonization (power, steel, cement). This flame-resolved comparison of H2 vs HHO enrichment adds combustion-chemistry evidence for fuel-flexible low-carbon systems, relevant to transition pathways where electrification is not feasible.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Hydrogen (H 2 ) enrichment is a practical route for decarbonizing methane-fired combustion systems. While H 2 enrichment is well studied, flame-resolved studies of hydroxy gas (HHO, a water electrolysis product) remain limited. This study numerically investigates 25% and 50% H 2 and HHO enrichment in laminar premixed methane Bunsen flames using finite-volume simulations with GRI-Mech 3.0 finite-rate chemistry. Simulations are performed at fixed adiabatic flame temperature and constant bulk inlet velocity. A supplementary 40% H 2 blend, with CH 4 and H 2 reactant mole fractions nearly matching those of 50% HHO, assesses the influence of co-supplied O 2 . Both enrichment strategies increase laminar burning velocity and shorten the flames, with 50% HHO producing the highest local peak heat-release rate. Co-supplied O 2 enhances the O/OH radical pool through H + O 2 ⇌ O + OH , whereas H 2 enrichment favors higher H levels. Relative to 40% H 2 , 50% HHO accelerates post-flame H 2 and CO oxidation and reduces residual CO. Complete-domain net NO reaction rates are higher for HHO than for corresponding H 2 cases but remain below the CH 4 reference. Overall, both blends support faster, more compact combustion, with HHO providing stronger local oxidation and heat-release intensity.
