📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

This case study from Nigeria demonstrates practical GHG accounting at the subnational government level. It provides a template for developing countries to measure and report emissions, relevant to global disclosure frameworks like CDP and GRI. The sectoral breakdown offers insights for policy targeting.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This study assessed the extent of carbon footprint in Akwa Ibom State Ministries, Nigeria. The aim of the study was achieved using four formulated research objectives and the corresponding research questions raised. The survey research design was adopted for the study. The study concentrated in all the Akwa Ibom State government ministries located in Uyo. The study utilised four scopes protocols established by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBSCD) and World Resources Institutes (WRI) in 2001. Data were collected using inventory and questionnaire. The collated data were calculated using the appropriate emission factors and totaling GHG emissions. Guidelines are available from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) databases as presented in Table 2. The data were finally analysed by multiply the respective emission factor by the energy source (fuel) quantity (E = ∑fuel {Effuel * (ECfuel - RE)}. Results indicated that the prevalence of GHG emission in Akwa Ibom State Ministries is 190,359.846KgCO2e/yr or 190.4tCO2e/yr which implies that the Akwa Ibom State Ministries within Uyo metropolis generated 190.4tons of CO2e with the carbon intensity of 7.1tCO2e per ministries and canteen. Results also revealed the composition of GHG in Akwa Ibom State Ministries and the available canteens to be 39.7 percent, 58.3 percent, 1.4 percent, and 0.6 percent for the scope 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively. Meanwhile, the results of the compositions of GHG by sector (ministries and canteen) within Akwa Ibom State Ministries indicated that the sector with the highest contribution was the Ministry of Transport (12.4%) followed by Ministries of Finance (12.2%), works (10.9%), and information (10.5%) respectively. Lastly, results showed that the extent of carbon footprint reduction within the Akwa Ibom State Ministries and available canteens was 5.3 percent, indicating a very low extent reduction. It is concluded that the prevalence of carbon footprint contribution of Akwa Ibom State ministries and the canteens within the environs was very high. The researcher recommended that Government should make it mandatory for all the ministries to utilized functional renewable energy sources such as solar system in generating electricity for the administrative and office used.
