📄 Abstract(原文)
This study examines the political and economic implications of the renewable energy transition in the Gulf countries—Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Qatar. Possessing economies historically dependent on fossil fuel reserves, these countries have begun investing in renewable energy in alignment with the global energy transition and sustainable development goals. The study provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of renewable energy investments on economic diversification, energy security, international competitiveness, and sustainable development. In recent years, policy frameworks such as Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy, the UAE’s Masdar Initiative, and Qatar’s National Vision 2030 program have aimed to reduce economic dependency by shifting toward renewable energy sources. These strategies have contributed to enhancing national energy security, promoting structural economic diversification, and strengthening the countries’ soft power in the global arena, particularly in the domain of environmental sustainability. Moreover, renewable energy projects have generated new employment opportunities for the young population, thereby fostering social development and promoting transparency and accountability within the energy sector. However, the transition to renewable energy is accompanied by a number of challenges, including high initial investment costs, technical barriers such as energy storage and grid integration, and issues related to societal acceptance. In order to address these obstacles, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar aim to develop innovative solutions by increasing their investments in research and development (R&D). This study demonstrates how renewable energy investments are reshaping economic, political, and social transformation processes in the Gulf countries. It concludes that the transition to renewable energy is likely to contribute significantly to these countries’ ability to achieve their sustainable development objectives and to attain a stronger position at both the regional and international levels.
