English
This paper proposes an allocation-based method to derive supplier-specific emission factors from organizational carbon footprints, reducing the cost and burden of detailed LCAs for Scope 3 accounting. Tested in the ceramic industry, the approach increases supplier specificity and supports cost-effective, collaborative supply chain decarbonization.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
As CSRD and ISSB impose detailed Scope 3 disclosure, companies globally struggle with supplier-specific data. This paper offers a pragmatic allocation-based approach that balances materiality and cost, which could inform disclosure practices and supply chain engagement frameworks.
A useful methodological contribution for allocating Scope 3 emissions at supplier level without expensive LCAs.
Companies can apply this approach to improve Scope 3 data quality while managing data collection costs.
Regulators may consider this method as an acceptable estimation technique for supplier-specific emission reporting.
📄 Abstract(原文)
Scope 3 emissions represent the largest share of corporate carbon footprints, yet their assessment is often constrained by the lack of supplier-specific data and the high cost of carrying out detailed LCAs for each purchased product. This paper addresses the Scope 3 supplier-specificity challenge by proposing an alternative allocation-based approach that derives supplier-specific emission factors from organizational carbon footprints. Developed through the Design Research Methodology and tested via a case study in the ceramic industry, the approach improves supplier specificity while containing data collection and implementation costs. Results show its potential to support more actionable, collaborative, and cost-effective supply chain decarbonization strategies.
