📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

日本のGX文脈において

米国の森林炭素収支を州・所有別に示したデータは、日本の森林吸収源評価や都道府県別推定の参考となる。日本もUNFCCC報告において同様の詳細な推計が求められており、手法や不確実性評価が参考になる。

In the global GX context

This publication provides high-resolution subnational forest carbon data crucial for national GHG inventories under UNFCCC. It demonstrates how detailed ownership-level estimates can improve transparency and uncertainty quantification, relevant for countries like Japan enhancing their LULUCF reporting.

👥 読者別の含意

🔬研究者:Detailed forest carbon flux and stock estimates with uncertainty for multiple ownership categories, valuable for carbon cycle modeling and inventory methodology refinement.

🏢実務担当者:Data for forest carbon offset projects and land management decisions, though focused on U.S. context.

🏛政策担当者:Demonstrates subnational disaggregation of forest GHG inventories, supporting policy for land sector climate targets.

📄 Abstract(原文)

As a signatory to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United States has been reporting an economy-wide inventory of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals since the mid-1990s. Estimates of GHG emissions and removals from forest land, woodlands in the grassland category, and urban trees in settlements are compiled by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service researchers and are based primarily on National Forest Inventory (NFI) data collected and maintained by the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program within the USDA Forest Service. The estimates of GHG emissions and removals provided in this publication are based on the compilation reported in the Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry chapter of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) submission to the UNFCCC. These data include 1990 to 2022 estimates of carbon net flux and 1990 to 2023 estimates of carbon stocks and land use/land use change area from the United States, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Included in this data publication are 21 tables of estimates and 2 tables of quantitative uncertainties, which provide results by individual states, regional ownerships, National Forests, and Tribal Ownership.
