Climate change has emerged as a defining global challenge of the twenty-first century, deeply altering economic systems, environmental sustainability, human security, and human mobility. Environmental degradation, rising temperatures, sea-level rise, and escalating extreme weather events increasingly drive population movements both within and across national borders. While traditionally viewed primarily as a destination for international migrants, the European Union (EU) faces growing climate-induced mobility pressures from both internal shifts and external inflows. Rather than acting as an isolated, direct cause, climate change operates as a threat multiplier, such as interacting with existing socioeconomic inequalities, political instability, localized labor dynamics, and demographic trends. This article evaluates how climate change shapes EU migration dynamics by analyzing contemporary theoretical frameworks, empirical trends, and policy responses. Adopting a qualitative methodology rooted in literature analysis and secondary data from international institutions, this paper maps the core challenges facing the EU, including policy fragmentation, legal protection gaps for environmentally displaced persons, and regional disparities. Finally, it outlines strategic paths to strengthen climate adaptation and build unified migration governance mechanisms within the European framework.
