This study assesses the technical and economic pre-feasibility of an integrated green hydrogen system combining solar PV, offshore wind, alkaline electrolysis, and seawater desalination in the Colombian Caribbean. For 10–30 kt H₂/year, LCOE ranges 35–95 USD/MWh and LCOH 3.2–7.2 USD/kg. A fully solar configuration at 30 kt/year achieves the lowest LCOH of 3.2 USD/kg, supporting phased deployment.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Green hydrogen production from renewable energy sources represents a key pathway for decarbonizing Colombia's energy system and advancing energy transition goals [1]. The Caribbean region stands out due to its high potential for solar photovoltaic and offshore wind generation, characterized by favorable resource availability and high capacity factors [2], [3]. However, this potential contrasts with existing limitations in electricity supply and infrastructure, which constrain regional energy reliability [4]. This context creates opportunities for the development of integrated energy systems that combine renewable power generation with hydrogen production, enabling both energy diversification and increased system resilience. This study evaluates the technical and economic pre-feasibility of a green hydrogen production system based on the integration of solar photovoltaic and offshore wind generation, alkaline water electrolysis (AWE), and seawater desalination. The proposed system is designed for an initial production capacity of 10 kt H₂/year, with scalability up to 30 kt/year. The hydrogen produced is intended for applications in heavy-duty transport and for the synthesis of energy carriers such as ammonia and methanol [6]. In addition, the system incorporates the potential to supply approximately 5% of the electricity demand in the Caribbean region, contributing to improved energy security and grid support. Results indicate a levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) ranging from 35-95 USD/MWh and a levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) between 3.2-7.2 USD/kg, depending on the energy mix, production scale, and financial assumptions. The most competitive scenario corresponds to a fully solar-based configuration, achieving an LCOH of 3.2 USD/kg at a production scale of 30 kt/year. Overall, the results support a phased implementation strategy for green hydrogen in the Colombian Caribbean, emphasizing water resource sustainability, territorial feasibility (8,550 ha total), and alignment with regional energy needs [1][5].
