📄 Abstract(原文)

Escalating trade-driven energy consumption poses a critical barrier to global climate targets, yet the role of digital transformation in mitigating this pressure remains underexplored. This study develops a theoretical framework and empirically investigates the nexus between digitalization and trade-induced domestic energy consumption (TDEC) using a cross-country panel of 43 economies from 2000 to 2014. Applying a value-added decomposition approach within a multi-regional input-output framework, we construct a novel TDEC indicator and find that a one-percentage-point increase in digital input penetration is associated with an approximately 1.5% reduction in TDEC. Mechanistic analysis identifies three operative channels: enhancing green total factor productivity, optimizing the energy mix, and upgrading export structures. Notably, foreign-sourced digital inputs exert a stronger dampening effect than domestic ones, and the mitigating impact is particularly pronounced in upstream segments of global value chains. These findings underscore the decarbonization potential of digitalization and offer actionable insights for reconciling trade expansion with energy conservation.
