English
This repository releases the replication dataset and trained ML models for an asymmetric actuarial audit of nature-based solutions. Using 50,000 Monte Carlo-simulated extreme hydrometeorological events in Costa Rica and Mexico, it models interactions among precipitation anomalies, soil permeability, and slope. Gradient boosting (LightGBM, XGBoost) is shown to optimize capital efficiency and reduce basis risk in parametric climate insurance, with loss-function design mattering more than architecture.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This repository contains the replication dataset and trained machine learning models for the research article: "Asymmetric actuarial audit for evaluating nature-based solutions: why the loss function matters more than model architecture." The dataset consists of 50,000 extreme hydrometeorological events generated via stochastic Monte Carlo simulation using the Gymnasium framework. It models the complex interactions between anomalous precipitation, soil permeability (Ksat), and topographic slope in the climate-vulnerable regions of Alajuela (Costa Rica) and Tapachula (Mexico). This repository includes: Dataset (dataset_entrenamiento_ml.csv): The synthetic Monte Carlo dataset containing the physical parameters and financial reward/penalty logic used to train and validate the algorithms. Trained Models (.pkl format): The serialized machine learning architectures evaluated in the study, including LightGBM, XGBoost, Random Forest, and Logistic Regression. Data Engineering Pipeline (preprocesador_SBN.pkl): The mathematical preprocessing pipeline (StandardScaler and OneHotEncoder). Visual Analytics: Complementary outputs such as SHAP value analyses (analisis_shap.png) and probabilistic calibration curves (curvas_calibracion.png). These resources allow researchers and practitioners to fully replicate the asymmetric actuarial audit, demonstrating how gradient boosting algorithms (such as LightGBM and XGBoost) can optimize capital efficiency and minimize financial Basis Risk in parametric climate insurance.
