English

Using an improved CASA model plus nighttime light data, this study estimates carbon sources and sinks in Daqing, China (2000–2022). NPP rose with fluctuation while emissions grew then stabilized, leaving the city in persistent carbon deficit. Carbon gain/loss correlated positively with natural factors and negatively with socioeconomic drivers (population, urbanization, GDP, industrial structure), prompting recommendations on cleaner energy, efficiency, and industrial greening.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

Adds a city-scale, spatially explicit carbon accounting case using nighttime-light proxies for energy emissions — relevant to the broader push for subnational GHG inventories that underpin corporate Scope 1/2 boundaries and regional transition planning, though it does not engage TCFD/ISSB frameworks directly.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This study employed an improved Carnegie Ames Stan ford Approach model (CASA) to estimate carbon sources and sinks in Daqing City, China (2000–2022) and integrated nighttime light data to quantify energy-related carbon emissions, exploring spatiotemporal distribution patterns of carbon fluxes, carbon gain and loss dynamics, and their influencing factors. The results indicate that: 1) Since 2000, the annual mean Net Primary Productivity (NPP) in Daqing City has exhibited a fluctuating upward trend, with the maximum value recorded in 2022 (265.01 gC·m⁻²·a⁻¹) and the minimum value in 2010 (199.96 gC·m⁻²·a⁻¹); 2) Carbon emissions demonstrated an initially increasing and then stabilizing trajectory during 2000–2022, characterized by accelerated growth between 2010 and 2015; 3) During 2000–2022, Daqing City maintained a persistent carbon deficit state, with net ecosystem productivity (NEP) exhibiting a fluctuating downward trend—reaching its highest value in 2000 (-187.87 gC·m⁻²·a⁻¹) and lowest in 2005 (-272.84 gC·m⁻²·a⁻¹); 4) Carbon gain and loss demonstrated a significant positive correlation with natural factors but negative correlations with socioeconomic drivers , such as population size, urbanization level, gross domestic product (GDP), and industrial structure; 5) Daqing should accelerate energy structure transformation through cleaner energy development and enhanced energy efficiency to reduce carbon emission intensity. Concurrently, industrial structure greening and technological innovation must be strengthened to foster low-carbon economic development, thereby improving carbon gain/loss outcomes.
