Brazil, despite having one of the cleanest electricity matrices and claiming climate leadership, relies heavily on oil production and plans to expand it. This paper analyzes this paradox, showing that Brazil intends to finance its transition with fossil revenues. It concludes that redirecting investments and building a coherent strategy are essential to avoid compromising its climate leadership.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Addressing climate change requires overcoming the era of fossil fuels, a consensus that has gained international expression in the recognition of the need for a transition away from these sources. In this scenario, Brazil occupies a paradoxical position: endowed with one of the cleanest energy matrices in the world and claiming a leading role in the climate agenda, it maintains, at the same time, strong economic dependence on oil exploitation and the prospect of its expansion. This article aims to analyze the Brazilian paradox in the energy transition, examining the contradiction between leadership in the climate agenda and the expansion of oil exploitation. Bibliographic and documentary research of a qualitative nature was adopted, based on scientific literature and international documents. The results show that there is an international consensus around the need to reduce and overcome fossil fuels, and that Brazil, despite its clean electricity matrix, has oil production as one of the pillars of its economy, surpassing all the generation of renewable sources combined. It was found that the country seeks to finance the transition with resources from its own fossil reserves, which constitutes the core of the paradox. It is concluded that overcoming this contradiction requires the redirection of investments and the construction of a coherent transition strategy, under penalty of Brazilian climate leadership being compromised by the expansion of oil activity.
