A 3D CFD study optimizes flat-plate solar collector geometry for preheating natural gas at pressure regulating stations, replacing fuel-based preheating. Parametric analysis of flow rate, absorber material, plate thickness, tube shape, and positioning yields quantitative efficiency gains (e.g., +14% from higher flow, +35% for copper vs. steel, +26% for absorber below tubes). Offers actionable design guidance to cut fuel use and CO2 emissions in gas infrastructure.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
Globally, this contributes to the decarbonization of gas transmission and distribution infrastructure, an area often overlooked in TCFD/ISSB transition planning. It provides engineering-level evidence for Scope 1 reduction in the oil & gas sector, relevant to transition finance and net-zero pathway assessments, though it does not engage disclosure frameworks directly.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Natural gas must be preheated before pressure reduction at city gate stations to prevent hydrate formation and ensure safe, uninterrupted operation. Conventional preheating systems consume natural gas as fuel, causing significant operational costs and greenhouse gas emissions. A comprehensive numerical investigation of flat-plate solar collectors as an alternative preheating solution for natural gas pressure regulating stations is presented. Collector design parameters are optimized to maximize thermal efficiency. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was developed using ANSYS Fluent and validated against experimental data from the literature. A systematic parametric analysis examined mass flow rate (0.02–0.05 kg/s), absorber material (copper, aluminum, steel), plate thickness (0.1–0.6 mm), tube geometry (circular, hexagonal, square, triangular), absorber positioning (below, mid-height, above), absorptivity (0.8–0.98), glass transmissivity (0.82–0.96), and solar irradiance (200–1200 W/m²). Increasing mass flow rate from 0.02 to 0.05 kg/s improves efficiency by 14%. Copper absorbers achieve 35% higher efficiency than steel. Increasing plate thickness from 0.1 to 0.6 mm enhances efficiency by 15%. Circular tubes outperform triangular geometries by 23%. Maximum efficiency is achieved when the absorber is positioned beneath the tubes, yielding a 26% improvement. Sensitivity analysis identifies mass flow rate as the most influential parameter, followed by absorber material and plate thickness. Efficiency exhibits asymptotic behavior at irradiance levels exceeding 800 W/m² due to coupled ambient temperature effects. The findings provide quantitative, actionable guidance for optimizing solar preheating systems in natural gas infrastructure, offering a pathway to significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption and associated CO₂ emissions.
