English
This paper examines the methodological paradox between building climate adaptation and life-cycle carbon reduction. It classifies adaptation measures into conflict, neutral, and synergistic groups by carbon effect, prioritizing passive design, deep energy renovation, low-carbon materials, nature-based solutions, and digital monitoring. It recommends integrating climate risk and carbon budgets into BIM-based design.

📄 Abstract(原文)
The article examines the relationship between climate adaptation of buildings and reduction of their carbon footprint over the life cycle. It is shown that contemporary architectural and construction science is facing a methodological paradox: increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases intensify climate risks and increase the need for building adaptation measures; however, some of these measures require additional energy, materials and equipment, which may increase operational and embodied greenhouse gas emissions. The purpose of the article is to systematize Russian and international studies on this issue and to develop recommendations aimed at transforming the conflict between adaptation and decarbonization into synergy. The methodological basis of the study includes a systematized review of scientific publications, analysis of regulatory and methodological documents, and generalization of open climate data. A classification of adaptation measures according to their carbon effect is proposed, with conflict, neutral and synergistic groups of measures identified. It is substantiated that priority should be given to passive architectural and structural solutions, deep energy renovation, low-carbon materials, nature-based solutions, digital monitoring, and scenario-based life cycle management of capital construction projects. Recommendations are formulated for integrating climate risks and the carbon budget into the building information model and the system of design solutions.
