A field-level study integrating a 116 MWp solar PV plant into an operating onshore oilfield's 220 kV grid. It supplies ~270 GWh/yr, cutting electricity costs 7-10% (~USD 9.6M) and avoiding 140,000+ tCO2/yr. Solar-only proved the most cost-effective, lowest-risk pathway versus adding battery storage.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Abstract Objectives/Scope This paper documents an actual field-level study conducted for an onshore oil field to assess the feasibility and impact of integrating utility-scale solar power into an existing high-reliability oilfield electrical network. The objective was to reduce power cost per barrel, lower operational emissions, improve long-term energy cost predictability, and establish a scalable decarbonization model applicable to energy-intensive onshore oil operations. Methods, Procedures, Process The study was executed using field-specific data, including real electrical load profiles, existing 220 kV grid architecture, and available land parcels within operating facilities. The methodology combined detailed load analysis, grid interconnection and protection studies, energy-yield modelling, and levelized cost of electricity benchmarking against prevailing grid tariffs. Multiple solar photovoltaic configurations, including PV-only and solar PV with battery energy storage, were technically and economically evaluated. A long-term power purchase agreement structure was assessed to minimize capital exposure while ensuring operational reliability and performance accountability. Results, Observations, Conclusions The field study identified an optimal configuration comprising a 116 MWp utility-scale solar PV plant synchronized with the field's 33 kV electrical network, supplying approximately 270 GWh of renewable electricity annually. The results indicate annual cost saving of approximately USD 9.6 million, equating to a 7-10% reduction in electricity expenditure and a measurable lifting-cost reduction of about USD 0.106 per barrel. The solution enables avoidance of more than 140,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year under a fixed long-term tariff, reducing exposure to electricity price escalation. Operational assessment confirmed that the hybrid solar-grid configuration maintains uninterrupted supply to critical production loads, with no adverse impact on system stability, protection coordination, or power quality. Comparative evaluation demonstrated that while battery energy storage improves dispatch flexibility, a solar-only configuration provides the most cost-effective and lowest- risk decarbonization pathway for the load profile. The study validates the technical viability of large-scale renewable integration within an operating oilfield environment. Novel/Additive Information This paper presents a field-validated case study demonstrating how utility-scale solar power can be integrated into a live onshore oilfield electrical system while delivering measurable cost-per- barrel reduction and emissions avoidance. By linking renewable deployment directly to operational and economic performance at field level, the study provides a practical, replicable framework for decarbonizing power supply across similar upstream assets.
