English

This paper presents a streamlined Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of a kitchen cabinet, calculating its total carbon impact from cradle to grave. It evaluates three end-of-life scenarios (landfill, combustion, reuse) and incorporates biogenic carbon and Module D benefits. The net GWP per cabinet ranges from 23 to 72 kg CO2e, and with Module D, reuse yields as low as 7 kg CO2e. The study underscores the importance of end-of-life treatment and biogenic carbon accounting in product carbon footprints.

In the global GX context

Globally, LCA is foundational for product carbon footprinting under ISO 14067 and EU PEF, and is increasingly required for Scope 3 disclosure (ISSB, CSRD). This paper provides a practical example for a common household product, demonstrating how biogenic carbon and Module D affect total emissions. It adds to the evidence base for standard-setting in product-level carbon accounting.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Abstract Kitchen cabinets are manufactured using many materials components including wood, glass, and steel. In this streamlined LCA. This paper focuses on the carbon impacts for producing kitchen cabinets and the end-of-life (EoL) impacts when the cabinets are removed from service and landfilled, combusted, and reused. One kitchen cabinet across its entire life cycle results in a net positive A1-C4 GWP TOTAL of 23.06 kg CO 2 e when the cabinet is landfilled, 72.39 kg CO 2 e when it is combusted, and 72.11 kg CO 2 e when it is reused. In each EoL scenario, the biogenic carbon content of the cabinet is −56.45 kg CO 2 . When Module D is included, an additional benefit of −14 kg CO 2 e is added under the combustion EoL scenario and −65 kg CO 2 e is added when the material is reused. When module D is included, the net GWP TOTAL under the combustion and reuse scenarios were 58 kg CO 2 e and 7 kg CO 2 e, respectively.
