English
DeDuCE-LCI is a global life-cycle inventory database giving deforestation-area and CO2 footprints for 183 agricultural commodities across 179 producer countries (2005-2024). Built from the DeDuCE model, FAOSTAT production data and bilateral trade, it offers three allocation methods and four amortization periods, including a GHG Protocol-aligned discounted allocation. It also provides consumption-country footprints for Scope 3 reporting where sourcing country or prior land use is unknown.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
Directly supports Scope 3 land-use change accounting under the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard and aligns with ISSB/CSRD biodiversity and deforestation disclosure expectations for agricultural supply chains.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Overview DeDuCE-LCI is a global life-cycle inventory (LCI) database of the deforestation footprint of agricultural commodities. For 183 commodities in 179 producer countries, 2005-2024, it gives the deforestation area footprint (hectares per tonne of product) and the carbon emissions footprint from deforestation (tonnes CO2 per tonne of product), the latter as both gross and net emissions, together with a flag stating whether each footprint is based on spatially explicit data (jurisdictional direct land-use change) or on statistical land-use change attribution. It also provides consumption-country footprints, i.e. footprints for each consumer country and commodity weighted by the country's supply mix, for use in scope 3 emissions reporting where neither the sourcing country nor the previous land use is known. The footprints are calculated from country-level estimates of agriculture-driven deforestation and associated carbon emissions from the DeDuCE model (Singh & Persson), combined with FAOSTAT production statistics and data on bilateral trade. Deforestation is allocated to production over time (amortized) using three alternative methods: linearly discounted allocation (following the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard), uniform allocation over time, and allocation over production. Each is provided for amortization periods of 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. FAO and CPC item codes are included to facilitate linking to other databases. Data users who want to confirm with the current GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard should use the data in the files DeDuCE_LCIs_20_disc.csv and DeDuCE_cons_weight_LCIs_20_disc.csv, respectively. The footprints are jurisdictional averages and are not specific to individual producers. They cover the conversion of forests only and CO2 emissions only, and are therefore a lower bound of land-use change emissions. See the README and the associated publication for methods, limitations and guidance on use. Documentation The background to, methods for generating, and an analysis of the data in this reporistory are presented in the following preprint: U. Martin Persson, Chandrakant Singh, Thomas Kastner, Michael J. Lathuillière, Carina Mueller, Chris West (2026). A global life-cycle inventory database of deforestation area and emissions for agricultural products. Preprint forthcoming Contents The repository contains: 1. Producer-country footprints for all combinations of amortization period (5, 10, 15, 20 years) and allocation method (discounted, uniform, production) (CSV files, in the zip-file DeDuCE_LCIs_producer_countries.zip). 2. Consumption-country footprints for the same combinations (CSV files, in the zip-file DeDuCE_LCIs_consumer_countries.zip). 3. The input data needed to run the script (FAOSTAT production data, DeDuCE deforestation data, trade flows, and a country lookup table), in the zip-file DeDuCE_input_data.zip. 4. The R script used to calculate the footprints from the input data. 5. A README with documentation of the data, methods, file formats and limitations.
