English

This paper is Part II of a series introducing the Cluster Adsorption Langmuir Model (CALM) for CO2 capture adsorbents. It builds a hierarchical framework combining a cooperative-scale descriptor ζ with a thermodynamic state descriptor π to reinterpret the conventional physical/chemical adsorption classification through adsorption evolution. Four representative adsorbents are analyzed, offering a unified basis for quantitative evaluation of intermediate adsorption states.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

As CCUS scales under net-zero pathways, robust adsorbent evaluation frameworks matter for capture cost and performance benchmarking. This theoretical work contributes to materials-level methodology rather than disclosure or policy infrastructure.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This work follows Part I of this series, which introduced the Cluster Adsorption Langmuir Model (CALM) for describing adsorption behavior from ideal to real adsorption in CO 2 adsorption for carbon capture. With the emergence of advanced adsorbents such as metal-organic frameworks and solid amines for CO 2 capture, adsorption behaviors increasingly exhibit cooperative and clustered characteristics that cannot be fully interpreted by the conventional physical-chemical adsorption classification. Meanwhile, recent developments in cluster-based adsorption models, including the Zeta, Langmuir-Zeta model and the CALM, provide complementary perspectives for interpreting adsorption behavior under the context of adsorption evolution. Such advances broaden the understanding of adsorption beyond interaction mechanisms and motivate a re-examination of physical and chemical adsorption from the perspectives of adsorption-state transitions and thermodynamic state. This work presents a literature-guided theoretical investigation of adsorption behavior based on CALM and the concept of mass-specific spreading pressure π . A hierarchical framework is established by combining the cooperative-scale descriptor ζ with the thermodynamic state descriptor π and its reduced form ψ m . First, the theoretical transition from independent adsorption to cooperative and clustered adsorption is analyzed. Subsequently, the conventional physical-chemical adsorption classification is revisited using adsorption evolution as a complementary perspective. Finally, four representative physical and chemical adsorbents are analyzed to examine the relationship between adsorption evolution and the thermodynamic state of adsorbed CO 2 . The proposed framework provides complementary descriptors for understanding the continuous transition intermediate states between physical and chemical adsorption and offers a unified basis for the quantitative evaluation of CO 2 capture systems.
