Analyzing annual reports and policy documents from Midea, Gree, and TCL, this study examines how AI converts green compliance costs into competitive advantage for Guangdong manufacturers. AI-driven energy forecasting and process optimization offset compliance costs through efficiency gains, while integration with green factories improves delivery and traceability, enabling order wins and price premiums. Outcomes depend on R&D, data resources, and organizational coordination, with reported results including 23% lower operating costs and 36% higher production efficiency at Midea's Nansha plant, 25% energy savings at Gree, and over 30% emissions reduction at TCL Zhonghuan.

In the global GX context
This adds firm-level evidence from China to the global debate on whether decarbonization is a cost or a value driver, relevant to transition-plan and climate-disclosure narratives under ISSB/TCFD. However, it stops short of linking operational gains to disclosure metrics or ESG ratings, so its use for CSRD/ISSB reporting is indirect.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Abstract: Against the backdrop of China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and the growing application of artificial intelligence (AI), this study examines how AI helps listed companies in Guangdong translate green compliance into competitive advantage. Drawing on annual reports from Midea, Gree, and TCL and relevant policy documents, it identifies three findings. First, AI reduces waste through energy consumption forecasting and process optimization, allowing efficiency gains to offset compliance costs. Second, its integration with green factories improves delivery and traceability, creating opportunities for orders and price premiums. Third, this mechanism depends on firms' research and development, data resources, and organizational coordination. Reported outcomes include a 23% reduction in operating costs and a 36% improvement in production efficiency at Midea's Nansha factory, 25% energy savings for Gree, and a reduction of more than 30% in emissions at TCL Zhonghuan. Manufacturing policy in Guangdong should therefore support coordinated development across AI, green manufacturing, and specific application settings.
